New Publication: Evaluating the Clinical and Economic Value of Rapid Influenza Testing in the UAE
VI Research is pleased to share our latest publication in IJID Regions, exploring the clinical and economic value of rapid molecular point-of-care testing for influenza detection in the UAE in collaboration with Dr Mohamed Farghaly, Dr Bassam Mahboub, Dr. Sara Al Dallal.
The study, titled “Comparison of costs and health outcomes of mPOCT NEAR technology to PCR and LFD for influenza detection in the United Arab Emirates,” evaluated the potential impact of different diagnostic strategies on healthcare costs and patient outcomes.
Key findings from the health economic model demonstrated that rapid molecular testing could:
• Reduce overall healthcare costs compared with conventional PCR and antigen testing.
• Support earlier treatment decisions and reduce unnecessary antibiotic use.
• Reduce influenza-related complications, hospitalizations, and secondary transmission.
• Improve healthcare resource allocation, particularly for vulnerable populations.
At VI-Research, we are proud to contribute to generating locally relevant evidence that supports informed healthcare decisions and strengthens the value of healthcare innovation.
This publication reflects our continued commitment to health economics, outcomes research (HEOR), and evidence-based healthcare decision-making across the region.
